Genealogy: Graves

The following are photos I have taken during my genealogical research.

Genealogy is one of many pastimes.  This gallery has a number of tombstones encountered during family research, many of which are not direct relatives.  These are located in the Denver area, Berthoud, and Loveland, Colorado.

A note about the first photo in this album:

The Virginia Dale Community Church, at the location of the Virginia Dale Cemetery, Virginia Dale, Larimer Co., Colorado. These photos were taken in August 2000. Sadly, an act of arson destroyed this historical treasure in November 2003.

This chapel was built in the 1800's, and never locked its doors, providing shelter for travelers along highway 287 (a former stage coach route). A small building, it contained several wooden pews, an organ, a piano, and a pot-bellied wood burning stove. Blue and Pink ribbons hung on the walls, commemorating all the children who had been baptized there. Nothing remained of the structure after the fire. The cemetery was undamaged.

The original Virginia Dale Community Church will be missed by all who watched for and enjoyed for the landmark as they traveled the highway.

It should be noted that due the tremendous generosity of caring people across the country, the church was rebuilt within a few months' time.
