MESA VERDE           

Unfortunately, most of the Park was closed during our 2002 visit, due to recent wildfires.  Over the previous 6 years most of the park has been burnt.  Ground cover for the most recent fire is gone, and the ground is covered in ash, while blackened trees still stand.  Previous years' burns have begun to heal, yet the evidence is still strong.  Most wildfires have been sparked by lightning during the extended drought in this area.  We hope the rain we experienced as we left the park is the forerunner of more healing moisture!

Although we weren't able to visit as much of the park as we would have liked, we still had a terrific experience.  We also came away with an amazed appreciation for the ancient workmen.  The workmanship was fantastic.
